Best time to visit Munduk: a season-by-season guide

29 June 2026 · The Heights Munduk Journal

Munduk keeps its own calendar. At roughly a thousand metres, this North Bali highland sits well above the heat and humidity of the south, so the question is less whether to come and more what kind of Munduk you want, the crisp, clear-skied version or the green, cloud-wrapped one.

Here is how the year breaks down, and the windows worth planning around.

The two seasons

Like the rest of Bali, Munduk runs on two seasons rather than four. The dry season stretches from roughly May to October, and the wet (or green) season from November to April. The difference here is that the northern mountains catch far more rain than the southern beaches, so even the dry months can bring an afternoon shower, and the wet ones can be genuinely lush.

The dry season (May–October)

This is the postcard window. Skies clear, trails firm up, and the island enjoys eight to ten hours of sunshine on a good day. It is the only stretch most guides recommend for serious trekking, and it is when Munduk's waterfalls, ridgelines and rice-terrace views are at their most reliable.

Munduk's altitude rewrites Bali's calendar, cool air, clear mornings and far fewer crowds than the coast.

The green season (November–April)

Don't write off the wet months. Rain in Munduk tends to arrive in heavy afternoon bursts rather than all-day grey, and the reward is dramatic: thundering waterfalls, emerald terraces and a mist that drifts through the valleys at dawn. January and February are the wettest, so they suit slower, indoor-leaning stays. The trade-offs are softer trails and the odd cloud-covered viewpoint, balanced by lower season rates and a landscape at its most alive. For where the falls run hardest, see our guide to Munduk's waterfalls.

Temperatures, all year

The headline is comfort. Daytime highs hover around 28–30°C, far gentler than the sticky 33°C-plus of the coast, while the altitude keeps nights cool and sleeping easy. Humidity eases too. It is precisely this climate, more than any single season, that makes the highland worth lingering in, the reason we wrote about the cool, clean highland of Bali in the first place.

So, when should you come?

For first-timers chasing clear views and dry trails, aim for June to September. For lush scenery, fewer visitors and better value, the green-season shoulders of November and March are quietly excellent. Either way, give Munduk more than a day trip, there is a long list of things to do once you slow down.

And there's the deeper point. Visitors plan around the weather; owners simply step outside into whichever season they prefer. That is the case for a home in the hills rather than a hotel booking, explore the residences or the investment numbers when you're ready.
